After claiming pole position, young Polish driver Alex Karkosik put in a dominant performance to win both races today at the Dubai Autodrome.
He had to work hard to achieve this as Saudi Arabian racer Omar Gazzaz led from the start of race one but spun out of contention at turn 1, handing the lead to Karkosik who led from Emirati racer Saeed Ali and Nabil Zakir Hussain. On lap 3 Gazzaz was back in his stride as he set the fastest lap of the race in his attempt to regain his position. At the end of the race it was Karkosik from Ali and Gazzaz.
Race 2 saw Saeed Ali taking the lead at turn 1 only to be overtaken by Gazzaz later in the lap. Karkosik managed to claim the lead on lap 2 and maintained his advantage until the end of the 12 lap race that was being held in atrocious conditions including high winds and a dust storm. Gazzaz finished second with Hussain in third. Fastest lap went to Karkosik.
Going into the last rounds of the Formula Gulf Academy Championship at Yas Marina Circuit, Karkosik has a healthy points lead but needs to have a couple of good races to secure the Championship title.
Final Rounds 9 & 10, Yas Marina Circuit, 9/10th March.
